GOOGLE - HOW TO MAKE SURE CUSTOMERS KNOW ABOUT YOU
The internet has almost become like a family member to everyone these days. What once was a luxury has now transitioned to an integral tool used by almost everyone around the world. According to recent surveys, since 2000, time spent online every week by an average American has risen from 9.4 hours to 23.6. Of that, time spent surfing the internet at home has risen from 3.3 to 17.6 hours a week over the same period. That’s a lot of screen time!
Smartphone addicts: The proportion of people accessing the internet from mobile devices has risen from 23 percent in 2010 to 84 percent now. Smartphone e-mail use jumped from 21 to 79 percent, and music streaming on phones soared from 13 to 67 percent.
Wider impact: The researchers note that 40 percent of people now think the internet plays an integral role in American politics. 62 percent say it’s important for maintaining social relationships. And, with the prevalence of smartphones, the internet is literally at our fingertips at almost all times. Because it is so easy to find things online, people engage in search activity almost without realizing it. Want to know a quick answer to a question? Google it. Want to find a phone number to a shop or restaurant? Google it. Want to know more about a particular subject? Google it.
People value their time more than ever today. They demand quick, accurate results to their searches, and they will not spend long looking for the answer. If it cannot be found in the first few pages of Google, people will not continue to look. Even in the last twenty years, people would look to the phone book to find a contact. By searching the yellow pages, they could find a business providing the service that they needed. Thanks to the internet and the increased use of smartphones, people no longer need phone books. Instead, they will simply pull out their phone, perform a search for a business or service near them, and make a call or visit.
