5 Logo Design Mistakes to Avoid

A logo is one of the most important aspects of any brand, but coming up with a great logo design is easier said than done. While a great custom logo design will be able to grab someone's attention in all the right ways, a poorly designed logo can be unappealing or, even worse, utterly forgettable. If you need some logo design inspiration or you're shopping for professionally designed logos in Arkansas, here are some logo design mistakes you should definitely avoid.

1. CONFUSING TYPOGRAPHY

Typography is perhaps the most important part of any logo design. Simply put, you should be able to clearly tell what a logo or slogan is saying. If a logo can't do that, it's a failure. Unfortunately, many people try to get too fancy with their typography and font, leading to a messy and confusing final product. When it comes to typography, less is more. Keep it simple and easy to read.

2. GETTING TOO COMPLEX

A logo design should be eye-catching, but that doesn't mean it should be complicated. A logo should work over more than one medium, which means it should have a simple but memorable design that is easy to recall. Companies like VisionAmp Marketing can easily help create professionally designed logos in Arkansas and throughout the U.S.

3. RELYING TOO MUCH ON COLOR AND SPECIAL EFFECTS

If your logo has to rely too much on color or special visual effects, it's not a very good logo. Try to make sure your logo looks great in black and white before you start to add color.

4. GETTING TOO TRENDY

A good logo is evergreen, meaning that it will always work no matter how long it will be in use. McDonald's has always had its golden arches, while Pepsi has always had its yin-yang-inspired logo. These are just a couple examples of timeless logos that haven't had to change a whole lot. On the other hand, many companies make the mistake of adopting logos that follow current advertising trends. These may look great at the time, but they quickly become a horribly dated embarrassment.

5. COPYING OTHER LOGO DESIGNS

Some businesses will attempt to piggyback on the success of another company by coming up with a similar logo. While this isn't always as illegal as it may seem, it is in poor taste. Not only that, but your logo won't stand out. You want your business and logo to be memorable; it shouldn't remind your clients of something else.
